There’s no place like home, except, perhaps, for that second home or property purchased as an investment. Real estate of all types, but particularly second residences, has become an attractive alternative to financial markets for affluent men and women. In fact, more than one-third (37%) of these individuals own a second home. Affluent men and women also are putting their money into rental property (20%), undeveloped land (18%) and other real estate investments (13%).Overall, real estate comprises 17% of the average portfolio of affluent men and women. Primary residences account for the bulk of the value of the real estate owned by households worth less than $1 million.
