Weary perhaps of the ups and downs of the financial markets, the wealthiest Americans are showing more interest in investments that deliver no surprises.
Indeed, 38% of those who have a net worth of at least $5 million say they would prefer a guaranteed rate of return for a majority of their investments. By comparison, 31% held that view in 2003. Guaranteed investment returns continue to appeal most to individuals who are 65 or older, 43% of whom like the predictability; that compares with 35% in 2003. However, even those who are 50 or younger are drawn to guaranteed investment returns, with interest more than doubling to 34% in the span of two years.
However, interest in guaranteed investment returns does decline with progressively higher levels of wealth, dropping from 40% of those who have a net worth of $5 million to $10 million to 24% of those who have a net worth of at least $25 million. Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts)
