Affluent investors of all ages are more likely to put their money in equities than cash, fixed income, real estate, alternative investments or precious metals in the next 12 months.
Research by Spectrem Group shows equities are the investment of choice for 72% of those who are younger than 50, 56% of those who are 50 to 64 years old, 52% of those who are 65 to 74 years old and 41% of those who are 75 or older. However, cash-based investments also hold considerable appeal, especially among the youngest group of investors.
More than half (56%) of those who are younger than 50 say they are likely to invest in cash or cash equivalents in the next 12 months, compared with 42% of those who are 65 to 74, 41% of those who are 75 or older and 40% of those who are 50 to 64 years old. Compared with other age groups, those who are younger than 50 also are much more likely to put their money in real estate, precious metals and alternative investments, such as hedge funds and private equity, and less likely to make investments in fixed income.
