While equities are the investment of choice for affluent investors of all ages, they are more popular with the old than they are with the young.
Research by Spectrem Group shows the oldest group of investors, those who are 71 or older, allocate nearly half (47%) of their portfolios to equities, putting the balance of their money in real estate (24%), fixed-income securities (17%), cash and cash equivalents (9%) and alternative investments (2%). The youngest group of investor, those who are 45 or younger, exhibit the same product preferences but differ in the percentages they commit to the various asset classes. They allocate 40% to equities, 31% to real estate, 14% to cash and cash equivalents, 11% to fixed-income securities and 4% to alternative investments. Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts)
