Given the state of the economy the past few years, have your retirement plans changed? Will you be working longer? What concerns you most about retirement? Will you make it?
I agree. Long term is long term. You either have a buy and hold strategy or you actively trade. Provided you have many years to go before your expected retirement, staying fully invested in the equities markets has proven with long term results.
No - I got back essentially all I lost in 2008 over the past 2 years and my advisor helped me reshape the portfolio with a lot higher percent of stable value which I will use to buy an annuity in two years when I retire. That will cover my income and leave the rest of my money for special items and a contingency fund.
I don't think we should focus on retirement? As my father always said, "once you retire you die". It is selfish to think that anyone currently under the age of 60 has the right to move to a golf course community and live odd of the taxpayers. Most of us will have to work until we die. My household currently has a nice income but between college expenses and living expenses it is very difficult to save. I will need to work forever and I plan to
Retirement in the future is about a state of mind not an age. We all are living longer and need to work longer to generate income. That will be the norm. Not the exception. It seems like the media feels everyone should retire at age 62!
I've held my course and not done anything rash and I've made up most of my losses
