Housing market shows small signs of life

Prices rose for the first time in eight months

Homes prices increased less than 1 percent in April according to indices that track markets in the nation’s major metropolitan areas. Despite the uptick, prices remain below levels for 2010.

The S&P/Case-Shiller 10-City Composite fell 3.1 percent from April 2010, while the 20-City Composite is down 4 percent. Record lows were reached in six metropolitan areas – Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas, Miami and Tampa.
