More than half of very wealthy households contributed to political campaigns in this past year according to research recently completed by Spectrem Group with households that have over $25 million of net worth.
Fifty percent of wealthy households donated between $1-9,999 while 13% donated between $10,000 and $24,999. An additional 4% donated between $25,000 and $49,999 and only 3% contributed over $50,000.
The chart shows how political contributions compare to other expenditures. Note the large amount of individuals donating more than $100,000 in charitable contributions. There are many that would consider those donations more worthwhile than political contributions.
As of year end 2009 there were approximately 980,000 households with a net worth exceeding $25 million.
