403(b) Assets by Segment

Assets held in 403(b) plans totaled $711 billion as of year-end 2009, up 16.1% from $612 billion at the end of 2008. The largest proportion of 403(b) assets continues to be found in the higher education sector, which accounts for 44% of the total.
